!S.P. may p.312 Abner Sears lived for a time in Rensselear, Schenectady and Opstego counties, NY,working at his trade of wagonbuilder. In the fall of 1818, he emigrated to Ohio, and settled in Yankeetown, Madison township, Fayette co., and became a thrifty farmer, removing in the fall of 1836 to the vicinity of Naples, Morgan (now Scott) co., IL. He was an honored member and exhorter in the Methodist church. His wife was a woman of remarkable ability for planning wisely in the industrious and religious cultivation of the family. She is said to have been a second cousin to the late Maj Anderson, the hero of Fort Sumter, and connected on her mother's side with the family of Richard Stockton, signer of the Declaration of Independance.
