Katherine E Sears - Requiem high mass will be sung at 9 a.m. Saturday at St
Joseph's Redemptorist Church for Mrs Katherine E Sears. BUrial will be in Mt
Olivet. Mrs Sears died Thursday in Denver. She was 89. Born in W Rutland,
VT, 22 Nov 1867, she married Herbert Sears in N Adams, MA, in 1902 and came to
Denver from there in 1917. Mrs Sears operated Sears Grocery & Grill in W
Denver for 35 years. A member of the St Joseph's Altar and Rosary Society, she
lived at 567 Inca st.
Surviving are a son, Robert, and a daughter, Mrs Mary E Larkin of Denver.

JAM She received the best possible education for a girl of the 1850s, was
taken to New York city to see the opera, plays, concerts, and to buy clothes.
In about 1862, her father sent for her from CA, and she obtained a letter
supposedly signed by Pres Abraham Lincoln allowing her passage through Union
Lines, and traveled by wagon train. She married and they purchased the Round
Hill Ranch in Catheys Valley, and raised cattle and livestock, and mined for
ore and copper. In 1892 they purchased a house in Fresno where Sarah and most
of the children moved. The schools were better in Fresno and life was not so
hard. In the summertime when CA central valley got unbearably hot, Sarah and
her children would take a 3 day trip to Santa Cruz, CA and stayed by the ocean
for the summer. They had nine children with the youngest dying in infancy. My
grandfatehr was their fourth child and second son. Sarah had a love for
genealogy which I inherited.
Sarah married William Jasper Wallace on 22 Jun 1865 in Catheys Valley, CA. William was born 26 Nov 1829 in Jasper, Al. He died 4 Dec 1905 in Fresno, CA.
