7218. James Morris Sears (Archibald , James , Thomas , James , Silas , Silas , Richard ) was born 2 Mar 1838 in , Kendall Co, IL. He died 4 Jun 1922 in Plano, IL.

HLS notes- James Morris Sears, named for his grandfathers james and Morris
Hadden, was born just two years after his parents had migrated from the East.
He acquired enough schooling to teach in one of the county schools (Sears
School, just off Big Rock Road, three miles north of Plano). One of his
students was Emily Lucy Cos, who later became his wife.
Mr Sears was a prudent manager and acquired large landholdings on both sides
of the Big ROck Creek north of Plano. He also served as first president of the
Little Rock twp library.
About 1898, just before his wife's death, the family moved to Plano, although
he remained active in farming. In 1911, he began distributing his land -
eventually giving over 2000 acres to his children. He encouraged all of his
children to acquire a food education and taught them to manage their land.
Emily Lucy Cox was the only daughter of John and Mary (Howes) Cox. The Coses
had settled in Kendall co about 1844, coming form Montogomery co, NY. Seven of
the eight Cox sons moved westward to MO and NE. John died during the Civil
War.
Mary (Howes) Cox was a direct descendant of twelve "Mayflower" passengers,
including John Alden, Priscilla Mullins, William Mullins and his wife Alcie,
John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, John Tilley and Catherine Legatt, Gov Edward
Winslow and Susannah Fuller White, William Brewster and Mary Wentworth.
