In his business relations he was always upright and conscientious, and gave his best energies to whatever he undertook. His prospects were bright, and his future promising. AMong his associates he was kind and obliging, a very agreeable companion, and had a kind word for all. During his sickness he never complained, and to the last exhibited a cheerful state of mind, and an indomitable will in bearing his suffering.

She had just arisen from the piano where she had been playing and singing, 'It shall be white as snow,' and stepped to the door to look upon the sublimity of the storm, when the bolt came, and her life was ended. She was very beautiful and accomplished, the pride of indulgent parents, the idol of brother and sisters, and the loved and admired of all that knew her, and when she was thus instantly and violently torn from the arms of those who would gladly have given their own lives to have saved hers, men stood as if with uncovered heads and dumb lips, feeling that they were in the presence of a power too great for them to comprehend.
