S.P. May p. 111 Joanthan Sears of Harwich, mariner, made his will Mar 28, 1752, "Being then very sick;" wife Priscilla and bro. Joseph, Exrs; mentions children but not by name.
The inventory was filed Feb 6, 1753, and amounts to L 128 123 0.
Nov 23, 1757, John Sears was appointed guardian of Jona. and Elizh. For
mention of his wife's will, see no. 47.

SPM p.91 John Sears and wife were adm. to 2d Ch., Yar., Aug. 5, 1739;
he was chosen deacon, Feb. 29, 1768, which office he held until his death; was a prominent man in church, and precinct affairs, for many years chosen moderator assessor, and on prudential commitee.
His will, dated Mar. 10, 1789, mentions wife, Priscilla, and children, John, Seth, Bashua Howes, Deborah Crowell, Betsey Tobey, Bethia Sears, Lucy Hall and Kezia Sears. Wife Proscilla and son Seth, Exrs.
Widow Priscilla Sears made her will, Jan. 7, 1815, naming daus. Elizh. Hall, Bethia Sears, Lucy Hall, and Kezia Sears (some of them by her first marriage), and grand-children, sons and daus. of Jonathan Sears, deceased, Jonathan, Asarelah, Abigail and Clarinda; and Lydia Sears, dau. of Rev. Freeman Sears, deceased; and daus. of Seth Sears, Hephsibeth Gibson, Priscilla and Belinda Sears, Herdpheba (sic) Sears, and sons, Luther and Mark.

S.P. May p.187(No 332) Stephen Sears and his wife Lydia were admitted to full communion in the 2d Ch., Yar., 20 Mar 1774, and he was chosen Deacon, 9 Mar 1789. He was active in town and church affairs. Stephen Sears of Dennis, "gentleman," made his will 15 Dec 1815 (1814?) and mentions wife Martha, daus. Sophronia Sears, Thankful Eldredge, Keziah Hall, Priscilla Howes, Lydia Sears and son Stephen. gr-st

Dennis, Cape Cod, p 230, Stephen Sears (1736-1815) was master of the brig Black Jack which did much damage to British shipping.

S.P. may p.187 Barnabas was killed by an accidental shot from a British man-of-war while on board of a transport in the Harbor of Newport, RI; he served 5 Feb to 1 Jun 1776, in Capt John Grannis' Co., at Tarpaulin Cove.

Dennis, Cape Cod, p. 237 Barnabas Sears (1758-1776) was also a casualty of the war. He ws killed accidentally by a shot from a British man-of-war when in Rhode Island aboard a transport arranging for prisoner exhange.

326. Benjamin Sears (Benjamin , Samuel , Paul , Richard ) was born 2 May 1738 in Harwich, Barnstable, MA and was christened 7 May 1738.

S.P. May p.125 Benjamin Sears is said to have lived for a time in Richfield, or
Litchfield, NY. (the record is not clear, but as the towns adjoin, his farm may
have been in both); he is also said to have lived in Sardinia, but the above
named children were all born in Southeast, and he and his wife are buried
there
"Benjamin Sears, pound-keeper," So. East, 6 Apr 1793; and taxed there,
1777.
A Temperance Sears lived in his family, and m. _____ Paddock; she was perhaps
a dau. of Lt Judah Sears, No. 264.

327. Stephen Sears Capt (Benjamin , Samuel , Paul , Richard ) was born 2 May 1738 in Harwich, Barnstable co, MA and was christened 7 May 1738. He died 7 May 1791 in New York city, NY.

S.P. May p.127, No 162 and hand note. May has a typo showing Stephen's BIRTH date as 20 May. He is a twin of Benjaminn b. 2 May. Capt Stephen Sears removed with his parents to South East, Dutchess (now Putnam co), NY, and about 1760 to Sharon, CT, where at a later date he purchased the Dea. Hunter (his wife's father's) place of 150 acres, where his gr-son, Benj Sears, No. 1032, lately lived. He was a carpenter by trade, and a builder of some note. He superintended the erection of the meeting-house built in 1768, which was taken down when the brick church was built.
He died of yellow fever at New York in 1791, while at work upon a contract
there. He held the office of Sheriff, and during the Revolution, was a
Commissary with rank of Captain.
He enlisted 22 Oct 1776 in Maj Shelden's Regt, Lt Horse and was discharged
30 Oct 1776. 16 Sep 1766, Steph Sears one of comm on building church. 19 Dec 1768, on com to build a meeting house. First wife was named Dillie.

married 6 mos before she died.

328. Enoch Sears (Benjamin , Samuel , Paul , Richard ) was born 5 Sep 1741 in Harwich, MA and was christened 27 Sep 1741. He died Dec 1773/1774 in lost at sea, Long Island Soun, NY.

S.P. May p.127 Enoch Sears removed with his parents about 1749, to South-East
NY, then a part of Oblong, NY; "went west,"(Kingston, NY?) and was lost on
Long Island Sound, three months before the birth of his son. His wife died of
grief eight months after Ira's birth, and the child was brought up by an uncle's
wife who cared for him as her own babe.
The Underhills were Quakers.
