327. Stephen Sears Capt (Benjamin , Samuel , Paul , Richard ) was born 2 May 1738 in Harwich, Barnstable co, MA and was christened 7 May 1738. He died 7 May 1791 in New York city, NY.
S.P. May p.127, No 162 and hand note. May has a typo showing Stephen's BIRTH date as 20 May. He is a twin of Benjaminn b. 2 May. Capt Stephen Sears removed with his parents to South East, Dutchess (now Putnam co), NY, and about 1760 to Sharon, CT, where at a later date he purchased the Dea. Hunter (his wife's father's) place of 150 acres, where his gr-son, Benj Sears, No. 1032, lately lived. He was a carpenter by trade, and a builder of some note. He superintended the erection of the meeting-house built in 1768, which was taken down when the brick church was built.
He died of yellow fever at New York in 1791, while at work upon a contract
there. He held the office of Sheriff, and during the Revolution, was a
Commissary with rank of Captain.
He enlisted 22 Oct 1776 in Maj Shelden's Regt, Lt Horse and was discharged
30 Oct 1776. 16 Sep 1766, Steph Sears one of comm on building church. 19 Dec 1768, on com to build a meeting house.
