S.P. May p.333 Alvan Sears removed from Harwich with his parents in the spring
of 1795, and settled on West Hill, Hawley.
The History of Hawley, 1887 says they were from Dennis. Roland Sears lived in
Harwich, and all his children were born and recorded there, but were baptized
in Second Church Yarmouth, to which church their parents belonged, it being more
convenient to their residence, which was near the Yarmouth (now Dennis) line.

3637. Franklin Sears (Elisha , Elisha , Elisha , John , Paul , Richard ) was born 4 Sep 1826 in Dennis, Barnstable, MA. He died 20 Feb 1899 in Wood Co, OH.

SPM No 1355, At the age of sixteen Mr. Sears removed to Sandwich, and learned the trade of wagon and carriage making of Isaac Keith, and worked for him until 1849. In the fall of that year he sailed as a passenger in bark "Orion," Capt. Bunker from Boston to San Francisco, making the passage in 180 days; helped build the first wharf in San F.; spent one winter on the coast of Peru, another season on Columbia River and in the wilds of Oregon, but did not accumulate much gold, and returned home by way of Panama in 1853.
In 1857, he removed, with his brother and sister, to Wood county, Ohio,
and purchased a farm.
In 1864, he enlisted in Ohio National Guard, 100 days' men, but did not go to the war.
He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in same year, was appointed Trustee and treasurer of church and parsonage, and has held other minor offices.
About 1882, he withdrew from the church, and now cultivates an eighty-acre
farm in Bowling Green, Ohio (SP May, pp394)
