!S.P. May p.101 Will dated 4 Apr 1802. Having no children of their own, they adopted Peter Sears, son of Roland S., of Ashfield, who was Exr and heir to each "Thankful, wife to Peter Sears was dismissed from Ch., Dennis, to church Ashfield, 16 Dec 179_"(between 1795 and 1799). Capt Peter Sears lived in East Yarmouth, now Dennis, and after he retired from the sea, kept store there, dealing in rum, salt, sulphur, molasses, tea, sugar, etc., "and a little more rum." He also manufactured salt. 20 Mar 1794, he was on com. to repair the meeting-house, and to provide Mr. Stone's wood and hay. He appears to have removed to Ashfield, MA, and probably lived with his adopted son Peter until his death.

!S.P. May p.192 Peter Sears settled on the John Bryant place, north of Hoop-pole

Hill, Cedar Swamp, Scituate, MA. He marched on LExington alarm, in Capt Galen Clapp's Co., and was credited with 24 miles travel, and 5 days' service, and expense, 9s 1d. He enlisted at Halifax, 20 Dec 1775, in Capt Nath'l Winslow's Co., in Col John Thomas Regt., and on 1 Mar 1779, was com. 2d Lieut. in Capt Noah Nichols' company of artificers, attached to artillery in the field and later, captain. In Gen. Reg. ix, 134, it is erroneously stated that he was 'son of Col Sears of Chatham, killed at Culloden,' a mythical personage, and in fact Capt Peter Sears was not born until 7 years after the battle.
