!History of Hawley by Johnson; Ashfield VR; Diaries and letters in Longley-Eldridge collection of Burton Wright Avery's inheritance; Levi Eldridge returned to spelling his name with an "i" instead of the "e" his father used! He established a sawmill at Hawley center, now called E Hawley, on Clesson Brook; engaged in the manufacture of broom and rake handles, etc, with his son Thomas who carried on the mill into the 20th century; His was a close knit family, several of whom lived far wawy from "the top of Hawley" but managed to visit often at the home place; son Thomas inherited the homestead which no longer exists, but the "Cox Pond" area is where it stood; he operated grist mill; Levi & Sally are buried in E Hawley cemetery; he died ae 90.

Notes

!History of Ashfield and VR; Hist of Hawley Mass by Johnson; Gravestones in Ashfield's 3 cemeteries. Levi came to Ashfield with his brothers Eli and Samuel from Yarmouth about 1777; he returned to Yarmouth to marry (1st) Tameson Sears; she died 24 Mar 1778 and is buried in Ashfield Plain cemetery; she was 20 yrs old. He returned to the Cape to marry another Sears girl and all his children were born in Ashfield by her; Levi served in the Rev War in Capt Ephraim Jennings co, Col David Field's Reg't from Ashfield; he and his wife Thankful are buried in Ashfield's Norton Hill Cemetery; their son Lemuel who died of consumption at the age of 33 is buried beside them.
