May p.447 Lived in Sandwich, MA !Sandwich, A Cape Cod Town, c 1984 by RA Lovell, Jr p. 316- The Boston packet was not only fast cheap transportation, it was a social process, an express service and a sporting event. Every town had one and the bigger towns had two. One owned by townsmaen and one by the B&S. They took some freight but were mainly for passengers. Seating in teh cabin was crowded and it was impossible to keep out of conversation. One feature of the trip was a hot dinner served enroute, of so generous a size that one wondered how the caterer broke even at 25 cents a piece. Fair weather allowed three round trips a week. The town packets were Sloop Osceola, Capt Barzillai Sears, sold 1847 and Schooner Wm G Eadie, Capt Stephen Sears (prob Barzillai's brother).
