1133. Sarah Sears (Prince , Jonathan , Samuel , Paul , Richard ) was born Dec 1759 in Harwich and was christened 2 Aug 1760. She died 15 Jan 1792 and was buried in gr-st.

Sarah married Joshua Sears, son of Edmund Sears Capt and Hannah Crowell, on 28 May 1778. Joshua was born 1 Jul 1753 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA and was christened 22 Jul 1753 in 2d Ch Yarmouth. He died 31 Mar 1825.

SPM p.149(No 220) Joshua Sears was, when young, a seaman, and later a farmer;
served in Lt. Micajah Sears' Co., 6 Sep 1778, on alarm at Dartmouth and
Falmouth; and shipped in ship "General Putnam," Capt. Daniel Waters, for naval service, 12 Jul 1779, at L2 per mo.; was taken prisoner and committed to Forton Prison, England, and imprisoned several years, during which he had the small-pox from which and other hardships he nearly died.
He was an active member of the church in Dennis.
His will, dated 3 Sep 1824, and proved 1825, names children: Ezra, George,
Reuben C., Rebecca Gray, wife of Leverett G.; Sarah, wife of Zoeth Howes; Nabby wife of John Hedge; and Clarissa, wife of Peter Hall.

1140. Thatcher Sears (Nathaniel , Joshua , Samuel , Paul , Richard ) was born 1752 in Norwalk, CT. He died 9 Jul 1819 in St John, N.B. and was buried in King St. Cem'y, 392.

S.P. May p.198 In early life Mr. Sears was much employed in the Mohawk country,
under patronage of Sir John Johnson, in the purchase of furs.
He was one of the Loyalists of the Revolutionary period, and as such suffered
persecution and exile.
He lost heavily in the burning of Norwalk, and his estate there, appraised at
L166.13.4 was confiscated by the State, and fell into the hands of the Church
family. (His mother m. 2d, Ebenezer Church of Norwalk.)
He was forced to leave the place, and sought refuge with the British army in
New York, removed to St John N.B., in 1783, and cut the bush at the foot of
King st. for the first white child born there.
He engaged in business as a furrier and hatter at 397 King street, and his
estate there is still in possession of his descendants.

Hester married Paschal Nelson Smith, son of William Henry Smith and Margaret Lloyd, on 14 Feb 1774 in Lic. Ny.

S.P. May p.113 Paschal was a partner in business with his father-in-law, and
later one of the first directors in the Manhattan Bank, organized in 1799 by
Aaron Burr.
During the revolutionary was he resided in Boston and was drawn in jury,
Maritme Court, 29 May 1777 and 30 Sep 1778.
He died of yellow fever at his summer residence at Bllomingdale, NY, in 1805/6
His will dated 20 Mar 1801, names wife Hester and nephews Benj. Strong and John
Aspinwall, executers.
Paschal N Smith was of the "Tangier Smiths" of Setauket, L.I., so called to
distinguish them from the "Bull Smiths," who lived in the next township, now
known as Smithtown. Col. Wm. Smith, his great-gr.-father was English Governor
of Tangier, Africa during the reign of Charles II.
